Dr. Jorge L. Alió, founder and medical director of the Instituto Oftalmologico de Alicante, Spain (now VISSUM Corp.) and founder of the Fundacion Jorrege Alio for the Prevention of Blindness, is recognized as a leading authority in the field of refractive surgery.
Since 1997, Dr. Alió has been a professor and chairman of ophthalmology at Miguel Hernandez University in Alicante, Spain. Previously, he held clinical and teaching posts at other Spanish medical institutions including Alicante University, the University General Hospital of Salamanca, and Miguel Servet Hospital of Zaragoza.
Dr. Alió has authored or edited 61 books. He has written 200 chapters and over 500 articles in peer review journals, and has collaborated on over 200 scientific articles in various media. In addition to his scholarly writings, Dr. Alió holds 36 patents and original designs.
Honored by both national and international organizations, Dr. Alió has received over 30 awards for clinical and research work. In addition, he has participated in hundreds of conferences and scientific meetings.
Dr. Alió earned his medical degree and his doctorate in ophthalmology from the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain.
